Avalanche: Girdwood
Location: Notch Mountain
Toured up the cat road and took two laps from tree line to the staging area.
Avalanche Details
One natural avalanche was observed on the steepest piece of terrain. It appeared to have run on the most recent storm snow interface that also ended up being our LOC.

Weather
When we started touring at 10:00 current precip was S2, it varied throughout the tour and built to S4 by the time we returned to the parking lot at 15:00. Sky condition was obscured, air temp was not taken, moderate east wind gusting 20+, winds were increasing throughout the day.
Snow surface
Surface particles were precip, the surface was loaded. Moderate wind loading occured between our first and second runs. Boot pen 30cm, ski pen 18cm.
Snowpack
We dug a quick pit at tree line at 12:40. Elevation was 1800ft, north aspect, incline of 20 degrees, snowpack depth 105 cm. Shovel shear test provided a result of STM 30 cm down. A compression test broke on the same layer; CT 13 Q3, 30 cm down.
Facets were present on the ground but our pit was dug on top of low bush blueberry type vegetation that may have impacted the test results in that layer.
