Route & General Observations

Ascended from the Mt. Baldy Trailhead along the road to Wallace Homestead and around up the North Bowl of the Baldy Ridgeline. Went to the summit, which was quite sparce and rock laden, and moved back down to the bowl. Snow depth ranged from 30-60cm with the average coverage of 45cm above 2,400′. Three other tracks down from the summit.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Snow within the past 36hrs. Ambient temperature around 21 deg F.

Snow surface

Between 30-60cm of new snow.

Snowpack

Snowpack showed minimal wind transport in last storm and similar crust layer from the mid-storm drizzle, this is popping up at Hatchers too. Roughly 33 cm of single finger homogenous snow / 1cm knife hard crust layer at 34cm/ 10cm fresh storm snow. Did several informal hand pits and a hand shear test which required intentional effort to get to shear, but did so on the bottom of the crust layer across the column. No signs of whoomphing, cracking, or visible avalanches in the area. Great quick adventure in the mountains.
