Avalanche: Hatcher Pass

Location: Microdot

Route & General Observations

It was a sunny Saturday after Friday’s strong winds and new snow. We did not get into steep terrain, but generally observed that the storm snow was not acting slabby- we had little results in our pits and could not get things to move on test slopes. However, we witnessed a human-triggered avalanche across the valley on Microdot.

The second of three skiers on a west aspect low on Microdot skied over a steep convexity and triggered an avalanche. Skier was not caught and no one was injured. We observed this from Gold Cord Mine so we did not get more details.
