Observation: Chugach State Park

Route & General Observations

Accessed via Rabbit Lake trail and up the ridge E of the creek that branches off Rabbit and continues up McHugh. No stability concerns on route. Wind scoured in places, some nice snow on N aspect lower. Was planning to go to saddle, low vis had other plans. Snow extremely hard to shovel and isolate. No tests performed.

Weather

Started with freezing fog, changed to very light snow as elevation gained. Visibility dropped significantly due to fog, total white out conditions above ~2800.

Snow surface

Approx 5cm new snow on top of older new snow, varied total depth of 0-10" depending on wind effect and location. Some wind scoured, but not very icy, skiable.

Snowpack

No tests performed, snow extremely hard to shovel and isolate due to hardness.
