Route & General Observations

This pit was dug on NNW Manitoba at 2300′ in an area with little wind damage.
However, most of Manitoba has been heavily wind affected. Areas above 2000′
varied from completely scoured to the ground and Oct rain crust to breakable and
supportable wind slab to sastrugi and hard wind pillows several feet deep.

Large temperature gradients were found in the pack. In general, over 100C/m in
the top 5cm and 25C/m near the ground.
