Observation: Other Regions

We saw this small avalanche on Tuesday Feb 2, 2010. We are not
sure exactly when it was triggered, but it looked recent. This is
one of those “pockets of MODERATE” out there right now.

The bed surface was confirmed to be the rain crust. The avalanche
was on a steep rollover to the lookers right of the middle
“up-track” out of Main Bowl. It was about 50 feet wide, 2.5 feet
deep, and it ran about 40 feet to a lower angle bench underneath
the steep rollover.

This is a good indicator that the rain crust could become one of
those deadly weak layers after we get the next big storm. We also
saw some very alarming results in a stability test pit on
Widowmaker Peak.
