The facets have developed a lot more in this pit compared to the
last one at this location on 2/19/2009. The temperature gradient
changed since that last pit. We’ve been watching this
bad temperature gradient for a couple weeks in other
locations, and it seems like the facets really took off and
starting developing recently.
The biggest concern are the facets on top of the rain crust.
They have become more sugary, but I can’t see any facets that are
super developed.
The facets lower in the snowpack stick together very well. The
facets have some rounded edges. You can pull an entire isolated
column of these facets and they stick together.
Note: my elevation is wrong on this pit, it should read 2500
feet.
