Cornbiscuit uptrack to Super bowl drainage and up the standard PMS bowl skin track to the Magnum Ridge 3200′
Checking out surface conditions and tracking the facet/crust combo near the base of the snowpack

Observer Comments

Two large whumpfs just off the ridge on the north side of Magnum in a thin snowpack zone
Recent cornice fall on Sunburst
Two recent glide avalanches in Lynx Creek drainage
Larger slab that looks to be cornice triggered on Sunburst that is believed to have happened during the 12.22.18 wind event

Clear and sunny
Valley fog
Temperatures in the low single digits at the parking lot and in the 20Fs on the ridge
Calm

Snow surface

Thin candy shell melt-freeze crust to around 1000'
Surface hoar varied in size, 1cm valley bottom becoming 2-3mm to ridge tops.
*between 2700'-3000' surface hoar was tiny ~1mm
Rime crust under the surface hoar along west shoulder
Wind board and sastrugi along ridge

Snowpack

HS @ 1000': 60 cm
HS @ 1500': 100 cm, crust 75 cm down.
HS @ 2200': 165 cm, crust 135 cm down (wind loaded)
HS @ 2500': 145 cm, crust 120 cm down
HS @ 3100': 200 cm, crust 170 cm down

Pit#1 - 2380', HS=130cm, SW aspect, 28* slope. See photo. Crust was 100 cm down with facets just above. No stability test results.

Pit#2 - 3030', HS= 165 cm, W aspect, 30* slope - See photo. November 23rd buried surface hoar 120 down. Crust with facets below. No stability test results.
