Below treeline snowpack situation in one picture. A student on AAS Level 1 remotely triggered this little snow dome 10 ft downhill from it by stepping in the connected slope.

Fine day to be out with Alaska Avalanche School Level 1 class observing the interaction of 30 cm of new
storm snow on top of very large (3-5cm) surface hoar. This picture exemplifies it all in one miniature
event. The new storm formed a very soft slab that failed on buried surface hoar, when student stepped on
a 20 degree slope 10 ft below the snow feature.
