Route & General Observations

Trenched our way up through the woods today on lower Pyramid Peak. Ski
penetration was past the knees at times making for slow going. Temps were in
the 20’s with calm winds and no falling snow. Snowpits at about 1800 feet on a
Southeast facing, 30 degree slope gave us easy failures on a layer of buried
surface hoar underneath the new storm snow (about 45 cm from the surface).
Total snowdepth was 230 cm.

Fortunately, we did not observe the shooting cracks and small avalanches that
were so common yesterday.
