Route & General Observations

AAS Youth Level 1 toured from Glen Alps parking via Middle Fork Trail to the base of Little O’Malley Peak. Blustery start to the day with significant wind transport up high. Snowpack is thin and wind affected.

Obvious wind transport and textured snow up high, less windy in the valley where we skied.

Weather

Windy and warm, skies clearing throughout the day. Winds from southeast.

Snow surface

1-2mm crust (ice lens), thin and breakable. Pockets of wind deposited snow.

Snowpack

We had several pit location sites, majority on WSW aspects. Basal facets were reactive in pit tests. Poor to moderate structure.

1 instructor had the following results:
ECTP16 at interface between Christmas storm and old snow (~55 down)

PST40/100end 55cm down
