Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.

Calm winds all day, trace snow. Clouds broken in AM with some sun on ridge, then overcast with flat light for descent

Snow surface

Very variable surface. We found pockets of soft powder interrupted with stiff windslabs (approx 12cm thick) and lots of wind boarded snow. Snow down low in alders was heavy bouncy powder with large surface hoar

Snow pit on an isolated wind slab at 2600', SW aspect, 27° slope angle. Pencil hardness 12cm windslab on top of 30cm soft snow (4f) atop an otherwise generally right side up snowpack (CT14 SC at 12cm down, ECTP11 at 12cm down). Skied over other similar areas with no additional signs of instability
