Light winds from NE
Recent precip from the morning 1-2"
1cm MF crust on surface to 1000'
1-2" new low density snow
Slight wind affect in this new snow above 2000'
We found Dec.25th buried surface hoar 1-2" below the surface in number of hand pits we dug above 1000'. Surface hoar ranged in size from 1cm at lower elevations to 3mm at our pit at 2350'..
We probed around in a number of places. Felt a thin crust near the ground at 1200'. With elevation this crust turned into several with density changes between them.
The snowpack was showing signs of good stability in a pit at 2300'. We found several MF crusts with moist rounding facets near the ground. Stability test failed on a density change 35cm below the surface. See pit profile and photo.
HS at 1200' was 90cm
HS at 1600' was 100cm
HS at 2000' was 120cm
HS at 2300' was 150cm
Thin line in this photo is buried surface hoar.
Grid size is 2mm, the average buried surface hoar at 2350' was 3mm in size
Pit at 2350'
Pit profile at 2350'
Alders are starting to lay down above 2000'.
