Route & General Observations

We dug this pit at 1800 feet on a west aspect. The new snow has
settled out to about 10 inches on top of the rain crust. We got
easy to moderate failures BELOW the highest crust, all Q3’s. In
an extended column test it broke on the 9th tap but did not
propagate across the column. Lots of junky, sugary facets in
between the crusts.
Whumphing at these lower elevations is probably the result of
collapsing underneath the crust(s).
