Observer Comments

Numerous glide cracks in the avalanche debris cones below the Library. Some are very large (and not always obvious from below) and go right through 10'+ of avalanche debris. The snowpack appears to be gliding on wet rock slabs. Same thing on Eddies south side, though on Eddies there are also many glide cracks above the avalanche cones, I didn't see higher glide cracks in the Library. While walking down to retrieve a dropped gauntlet a big glide crack almost ate, there was a small settling underfoot, felt like a small windslab collapsing. I didn't imagine it was anything else since I was on windblown avalanche debris. Coming back up I saw significant shooting cracks in the collapse area, and decided to ski elsewhere. By the time I'd eaten lunch and changed to descent mode, the "shooting cracks" had widened noticeably and extended across the slope to the neighboring avalanche cone to connect with the corner of a previously existing glide crack. Then I really wanted to be somewhere else.
