Chugach Electric Association Quartz Creek Rebuild Project
Chugach Electric Association will be rebuilding a 15-mile section of
Transmission Line between Ingram Creek and Silvertip Creek, which includes the
section of power line running through Turnagain Pass. This activity is
authorized under special use permit CHU33
You can expect to see crews working in the power line right-of-way, along
various access routes to the power line, and in areas near the project that have
been approved for staging materials and equipment through the 2012/13 winter
recreation season. New, replacement power poles will be staged in these areas
before being brought to the right-of-way. While in the staging area, or on the
right-of-way, power poles can become covered in snow and present a hazard to
snowmobile operators. Please use caution when operating snowmobiles in these
areas.
While in the staging areas, or on the right-of-way, power poles can become
covered in snow, and snowmobile operators, and others, should keep an eye out
for, and avoid, snow-covered piles. Please use caution when operating
snowmobiles or skiing in these areas.
