Route & General Observations

Toured from PL at end Hatcher Rd along base of Eldorado Bowl to Independence park mine bldgings. Ski cut tests on steep W. facing slopes along creek produced no results. Snow moderately dense and mostly bottomless with slow going on the uphill. Felt single whumph near PL.

Felt single whumph after crossing creek near base of Eldorado Bowl. Recent? post-storm avalanche debris observed on Skyscraper Mtn, just N. of Eldorado Bowl (pic).

Partly cloudy in am, turning overcast by 1400 with associated flat light. temp at 3159ft at 12:15 = -1C
Winds calm.

Snow surface

8cm layer of wind transported 4F snow over decompasing storm snow. Much better snow cover in area after recents storms.

Snowpack

Snowpack depth varied from 57cm at 3159ft to 74cm at Indpendence Wx sta. at 3212ft. Pit site profile top down; 57-49cm 4F wind transported snow; 49-15cm F decomposing particles; 15-5cm P melt/freeze crust including rounding facets; 5-0cm F rounding basal facets. Note: mislabeled on attached snowpit profile as "rounded depth hoar"
Got ECT16PQ2 on top of melt/freeze crust.
