Route & General Observations

Turkey Trot up to Hunter Pass above South Fork of Eagle River. Started from TH around 10:30am.
Weather aligned with the big storm system, Moderate and high winds from generally SE, warm temperatures, overcast sky. Minimal precip observed.
About 10cm new, wet snow at TH. Dry snow found above ~2800′. Very active snow transport. Windward terrain was pretty much completely scoured. Wind loading in leeward terrain and cross loading in gullies. Pole probing revealed wind slabs were relatively* soft –not quite windboard. Whumpfing at about 3200′.
Ski quality was not bad, where the snow existed.

Observer Comments

Large whumpf triggered at about 3200' --possibly due to being near a thin spot, and traveling closely. Good thing our terrain choice was relatively mellow!
