Route & General Observations

Skinned up from Independence Mine Parking Lot into head of Rae-Wallace Bowl then up south ramp to Picnic Bench at 4200′ on MicroDot west ridge. This observation is after first snow storm of season. Wet grabby snow surface below 3500′. Dryer powder above. Primary danger is sloughs on higher slope angles.

Avalanche Details

Skier descended from near MicroDot summit along rock ribs on SW face. He initiated a large slough and at one point was skiing below it followed by a dog. They cleared the slough by skiing at a cross angle. Slough was large enough to knock skier down and bury dog.

Large slough avalanche came down the Martin Mine gully on south side of Skyscraper at some point during the storm. Overall, point releases off dark rocks facing west
