Recent glide release on South face of Skyscraper.
Standard route up Hatch Peak for a few laps. Scoped out the lake run but decided not to drop in due to poor visibility.
Recent glide release on South face of Skyscraper.
Overcast skies, deteriorating visibility as day went on. Moderate S-SEwinds actively transporting snow. Light snow starting around 12pm. Rain/snow line estimated at 2100ft at 1pm.
Variable snow surface, as dictated by wind exposure, from fields and pockets of powder to icy crusts. Ski pole probing gave the impression of a right side up snowpack.
A handpit (4600’, SE aspect) test showed good bonding between recent snow and previous surface (sun crust).
