From Harp Mtn Trailhead, we toured up the lower angle ridgeline that eventually meets up on the north side of Harp Mtn. Once on the west face we encountered 2 whumps and shooting cracks. At 2900′ we dug a pit to check out the snowpack with concerning results.

Weather

The temps above 25degF with a light breeze occasionally gusting to 10-15. Mostly clear.

Snow surface

Wind effected surface, still soft from recent snow.

Snowpack

A layer of facets 45cm down was failing under our weight causing two significant whumps and one that resulted in shooting cracks. See snowpit profile for instability test results.
