The layer mentioned at 40 cm deep is the Feb 14 drizzle crust
Snowmachined up goodhope creek uptrack and dug a pit on E aspect at 3300′. No red flags observed. Skies broken, NO precip, calm wind. Later in the day with sun showing itself off and on, saw numerous natural wet loose avalanches on solar aspects in the lower 3000′ elevation band.

warm temps around freezing, calm wind, smooth dense snow
Snow depth at location of pit was 280cm. Dug a pit 160cm down. Layer of concern is a <1cm melt freeze(rain?) crust down 40cm in our pit. Layer showed no reactivity in any of formal tests performed.
