Route & General Observations

Toured up IM road around the backside of Cross Bump, continuing onwards and upwards to the lookers left ridge of Gold Cord, keeping close to the ridge and patches of snow near the rocks. We traversed to the right by the mine ruins, heading to the snowy bench /shoulder just below the true summit on the lookers right. We descended, traversing generally from the left to right back out to IM road. The snow surface had 1-2” of fresh fluff that held on to the crust below and made for fun riding. Still encountered sections of soft snow, surrounded by breakable crust, and swathes of nearly impenetrable crust, but the refresh markedly improved riding conditions.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

1-2” of fluff fell the night prior. We began at 12pm with sunny skies, calm wind, temps in the 20’s. By 3pm the clouds had moved in over the Chugach and blocked the sun but the winds remained calm, down to 15° at time of descent.

Snow surface

1-2” of fluff on top of breakable to nearly impenetrable crust.
