Observation: Chugach State Park

Route & General Observations

Toured out of the Glen Alps PL along the base of the NE aspect of Blueberry Knoll. Then up onto Blueberry Knoll along the ridgetop returning via NW aspect of Blueberry Knoll. saw evidence of avalanche debris from point releases and sloughs on S. aspect of Little O’Malley Pk (pics). These may have occurred during storm on 1/29 and partially covered by snow on 1/30. Watched skiers/snowboarders ski these same slopes.

Weather

Started out under partly cloudy skies. At 1315 the Glen Alps weather station reported 10deg with windsNE@1G2. It was COLD!

Snow surface

Breaking trail through new snow deposited during storms on 1/29-30. 30-45cm on firm base. Somewhat wind scoured on ridgetops forming 4-1F soft slabs (pic). Noticed evidence of recent wind transport by south winds on NW aspect of Flattop (pic).

Snowpack

Did pit on on NE aspect of Blueberry Knoll at 2425ft (attached). Got CT11Q3 with new snow on old crust. ECTX.
