Red Flags
Red flags are simple visual clues that are a sign of potential avalanche danger. Please record any sign of red flags below.
Obvious signs of instability
Recent Avalanches?No
Collapsing (Whumphing)?No
Cracking (Shooting cracks)?Yes
Observer Comments

Shooting cracks in areas of wind deposited snow. We were able to kick off a small wind slab on a test slope. Wind slab was 6"-10" thick and barely hanging on to a stout crust. Easy initiation and propagation.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Snowing on and off all day. No real accumulation at the car because of warm temps. Maybe 4" of new snow up higher. Moderate winds earlier in the day decreased in the afternoon.

Snow surface

Breakable crust, wind buff, cold and hot pow depending on aspect and elevation. Snow quality diminished drastically below 1500'.

Snowpack

No formal stability tests besides stomping on test slopes.
