Route & General Observations

Lower Eastern slope of Colorado Mtn, Friday:
HS 50cm below treeline on ESE aspects
10-20cm powder well bonded to lower layers, basal weakness found in places where
the grass had ice lens formed on it

Tenderfoot, Saturday:
HS 42-70cm
Variable test results on West facing slopes below 2000′
RB5 Q2-3 near old crust 30cm up from ground, RB7 on similar slope a few hundred
feet below
By afternoon, South wind had picked up and formed windslab that cracked when
stepped on

Lower Fresno Ridge Sunday:
1300-2500′
East aspect, slopes less than 35 degrees
By afternoon, we did have shooting cracks in fresh windslab – building with
strong NW wind. Convex rollovers and gully features were sensitive, cracking to
50cm deep, but did not run on the lower angled terrain.
In protected areas, hand and compression tests showed no result as the 30-40cm
light new snow seemed happy to stay put on a well-structured 90cm base.

Recent glide releases observed at mid-upper elevations on many aspects, with
more occurring closer to Turnagain Pass than Summit Lake. A couple steep,
crossloaded upper-elevation gully features on SE aspects at the South end of
Turnagain Pass released~Size 1.5
