Route & General Observations

Skinned up SE ridge of Fresno to 2100′ for snowpit observations.

Weather

Air Temps at 26 F.
Winds in the am were light and increased to ~8mph throughout the day.
Light Snowfall began at 1030 and increased to moderate by 2pm.

Snow surface

Top 2" was loose dry powder.

Snowpack

Localized cracking at ski tips on the ascent pointing to consolidated snow layer over less consolidated snow layer.
Snowpit at 2100'. NE aspect, 23deg slope.
Ski/Boot penetration: 20cm/60cm
20" consolidated snow over 2" persistent facets on top of 12/1 rain crust. Snowpack total depth 47" with 2" depth hoar at the ground.
ECTP27 on facets over 12/1 crust
PST 38/100 End on facets 12/1 crust
Multiple students got similar results in the vicinity on E aspect.
