Route & General Observations

Toured standard uptrack under clear skies. 3mm surface hoar noticed right below treeline and up to pit location, which was was below the Eddies’ headwall on a SW aspect under the uptrack at ~2,500 ft.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Clear skies, no wind, strong inversion

Snow surface

3 mm surface hoar observed near uptrack from below treeline to below headwall at ~2,500 ft. Recycled powder and good skiing. Ski penetration of ~5-10 cm.

Snowpack

Snow pit at 2,500 ft on SW aspect below Eddie's headwall. 32 degree incline. The snowpack was right side up and we did not find the Nov. 16th buried surface hoar. Snow pit height was 100 cm and the height of snow was 160 cm. Tests were rather unremarkable at CT9, failing two cm below the surface on NSF, and ECTX. We did find a very thin crust 2 cm below surface, possibly from radiative recrystallization, with NSF above the thin crust.
