Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Mostly sunny, occasional valley fog. Temps in the 20s, light variable wind.

Snow surface

Snow surface was soft along the entire route, even above treeline. 1mm surface hoar formation observed at the top of the route, never on a hard bed surface.

@1100' just out of the trees, 55cm of new snow from the Friday night/Saturday storm, with 100cm now covering the Thanksgiving raincrust. Ski penetration of 25-40cm on the lower mountain, decreasing to a low of 5-10cm above treeline in the wind affected areas at the top of the lower west bowl.

Snowpack

Right side up snowpack along the entire route. Hand tests showed no results at the interface of last week's snow and the Friday/Saturday storm snow below treeline.

Above treeline, some shallow 4-8" wind slabs were covered by several inches of soft snow; these broke cleanly in hand shear tests under moderate pressure, revealing a thick, softer 4 finger layer of facets.
