Route & General Observations

Broke trail up to 1500′ on Eddies before giving up and breaking trail back to the trailhead in the 8-10″ that had fallen since we left the car!

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Heavy snowfall throughout the day with 8-10" of new snow in 4 hours.

Snow surface

Deep new snow. Breaking trail in untouched areas was thigh to waist deep at upper elevations.

Snowpack

We dug one pit at about 1200' and had a propagating result in our ECT about 1.5' deep on the interface with the old storm snow (ECT P 13). This is a sign that storm slab avalanches releasing about 1.5' deep were reactive due to the heavy snowfall rates. We did not see any other alarming results but our snow pit location was only representative of the below treeline and treeline elevations. We were not able to test the weak layers buried from 3.14 that have produced some large avalanches in the last few storm cycles.
