Weather
Gorgeous day with full sun and no wind all day. Temperature of -5 C (23 F) at our high point around 1:30 pm.
Snow surface
Soft upper 30 cm for pretty much all terrain except the upper ridge just below the main peak at the top. On the up track below the trees we could feel a hard crust 30-40 cm down with ski pole probes. Once we got out of the trees and onto the ridge, there was more evidence of wind effect. We also saw older ski tracks up high that were filled in with blown snow, but not on all aspects.
Snowpack
We dug two snow pits at around 2400 feet to a depth of about 100 cm. NW aspect, 23 degree slope. The top 30 cm was soft and then a quick transition at a thin ice layer to a harder, single finger snow pack that persisted down the rest of the 100 cm profile. That snow was also very dense and harder to shovel. Neither pit showed any signs of propagation (ECTX) but columns did shear at the 30 cm layer when isolated (CT25) and also when forced with a shovel.
