This pit was about 4 feet deep on top of rocks and tundra. I did
not get any failures on the October facets near the ground until
I really hammered on my shovel. The weak layer of greatest
concern is in the middle of those facets. Unlike other recent
pits, however, I did not find that layer of buried surface hoar.
I was able to pull the entire lower layer of facets and burp
them. This layer did not crumble to pieces.
