Route & General Observations

I triggered a small windslab avalanche (20′ X 20′ X 1′) upon hopping into the 4th Cornbiscuit chute today. It broke above me at the top of the convexity and I was able to dive thru the moving debris and grab the bed surface. The bed surface was made up of surface hoar that was freshly buried by the wind. The 3 upstream chutes of Cornbiscuit were all skied without any slab avalanches. Of note, I was not the first set of tracks in the line. I’ve attached a picture of a part of the crown, you can see that the crack stepped down into the underlying layer, though that layer did not slide. I thought this little slide was a really nice example of what all of Turnagain might act like after tonight’s storm: I wasn’t the first set of tracks on the slope and it broke above me.
