Route & General Observations

Started at the pull out at 10:00. Scattered clouds clearing up to blue skies, no wind, 28°. Standard skin track up. Ski penetration about 4 inches with superficial crust until 2,200 ft. Warm enough that snow was clumping on skis and boots. At 2,600 ft on the SE rib noted a stiff wind crust about 4 inches deep, probed at 110cm. At 2,700 ft noted hollow sounding snowpack and some cracks. At 2,800 ft noted shooting cracks. Stopped at 2,900 ft, probed deeper than 300 cm (noted some stiff layers 55, 70, 110, 165, and 215 cm down). No red flags noted on the ski down, decided to skin back up on the NE face without any red flags noted, snow much nicer than first lap. Stopped at 2,900 ft, probed 245 cm (noted stiff layers at 70, 100, 165, and 195 cm down). No red flags on the ski down, snow much nicer than first lap. Some rollerballs and cream cheese in the meadow, crust below the meadows back to the road. Back at the pull out at 1:30.
