Route & General Observations

Groups toured out Center Ridge, the north part of Tincan trees, and Sunburst. Groups on Center Ridge and Tincan dug pits, and noted the presence of two layers of buried surface hoar. Stability tests showed variable results: propagation on the January 21 buried surface hoar and facets sitting on a crust in some pits, ECTX in others.

Weather

Dense valley fog was turning parties ahead of us around on Center Ridge, and was noted by the group on Sunburst. Valley fog progressed to partly sun by the afternoon. Wind was calm to light. Temps in the low 30's.

Snow surface

Settled powder noted at Center Ridge.

Snowpack

Pit results from 1380', SW aspect on Center Ridge: ECTP22 down 35 cm on buried surface hoar and facets sitting on a stout crust. Buried surface hoar was also found down 15 cm, and showed variable CT results, but no propagation. Group on Tincan did not note propagation in and stability test results.
