Route & General Observations

Travelled up to the penguin/california creek ridgeline to approximately 4100′. Ok travel in the helmocks then lots of proud alders to whack, then walking on a firm slippery (sometimes more hard windboard sometimes more icy) crust w approximately 2-4″ of facets on top. Small surface hoar on the surface most places we travelled. Quite a bit of variability in the near surface crust in our travels, as mentioned above, sometimes icy, sometimes very firm windpressed snow, sometimes breakable, mostly not, sometimes it seemed faceted out of existence. Will be difficult to track where what types of bed surfaces are with the next load.
