Observation: Turnagain
Location: Bertha Creek/Granddaddy
Toured up Bertha Creek, up the north face of the valley’s headwall, over to Granddaddy Couloir. Lots of avalanches but good dry snow up high on north facing aspects.
Obvious signs of instability
Observer Comments
Lots of wet point release and some wet slabs on south and west facing aspects. Northeast facing aspect of the valley with dry (but wetter looking) point releases starting from rocks.
Weather
Sunny, warm. Low winds.
Snow surface
The snow was crusty up to ~3000ft and turned into dry snow on north facing aspects above this. Later in the day, ~4pm, snow below 2500ft was wet and unsupportable, boot prints up to the knee.
Snowpack

ECTN12 at 12 cm down - failure in this layer was only under the shovel on ECT, no propogation further down the column.
Firmer layers also existed at 55cm down and 100cm down. These didn't react in testing. These were overlying what looked and felt like facets that were getting more moist and cohesive.
