Route & General Observations

Left Arctic Valley PL at 2600ft at 1100 under partly cloudy skies and calm winds. Followed valley bottom NE and up Tequilla Bowl on lookers left towards Mt. Gordon Lyon. Climbed to 3900ft below Gordon Lyon, then back down, around to the S. Frk Eagle R. saddle. No sign of avalanches related to recent storm event and snow dump of 1/1/20. Overcast by 1400.

Weather

Partly cloudy skies and calm winds in valley bottom until 1400 when sky clouded over. 2-3mph E. wind on ridgetops. At 12:30 temp was -2F. Buurrr!

Snow surface

At PL 20cm loose storm snow fallen in last 24hrs. over firm base of unknown depth. Partially filled-in ski tracks in valley bottom indicated some wind transport in last 24hrs, but no slab formation. Followed loose snow up to 3900ft level where found a mix of wind crust and loose wind transported snow. No whumphing or shooting cracks observed.

Snowpack

Did pit at 3640ft, 234deg aspect and 28deg SA in Tequilla Bowl. SA. TSD = 130cm. Top down; 130-120 = F storm snow; 120-115 = P rounds; 115-113 = 1F rounds; 113-100 = P rounds; 100-95 = BSH layer; 95-75 = P rounds; 75-70 = 4F rounding facets; 70-50 = 1F rounds; 50-20 = P rounds; 20-15 = K MF crust; 15-0 = 1F 3mm rounding facets.
Got CT22Q2@95cm on buried SH layer. Got ECTP24Q2on same layer.
