Avalanche: Chugach State Park

Route & General Observations

Skinned up between chair 2 and T-bar to top of T-bar then up ridge line to top of chair 2. Noted collapsing in deeper pockets of snow. Triggered slide in lower brandy area just below chair 2 while traversing back to parking area. Slide propagated approximately 150 ft up hill from trigger point to chair 2 line and slide approximately 150 ft below trigger point. Crown approximately 3 ft high and roughly 60 ft wide.

Forecaster Comments

After further conversation with this observer, this avalanche was in a depression (a shallow gully that runs vertically) completely full of wind transported snow. Which is why the crown was up to 3' deep. He commented that "if you did not know the area well one may not have known it was a depression in the terrain" with a deeper snowpack.
