Route & General Observations

Skied the main north facing slope above the lodge. A few inches of new snow from the recent storm with a total snowpack that varied from 8-10” to scoured bare ground in other spots. A lot of wind effect with the new snow and on some northern aspect areas there was a soft wind slab layer below the new snow about 5” down from the surface (see photo).

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Partly cloudy, 5-10 mph north wind. See weather station info for wind and temp data.

Snowpack

Cut out a few blocks of snow down to the ground with a ski pole and the block easily collapsed with some hand pressure, failing on 1-2” of sugary snow on the ground surface. No shooting cracks or collapsing in these spots.
