Route & General Observations

We traveled the standard up track to Hatch Peak and $1000 run.

Red Flags
Red flags are simple visual clues that are a sign of potential avalanche danger. Please record any sign of red flags below.
Observer Comments

No collapsing or cracking observed. No recent or new avalanches were observed. No obvious signs of instability were observed.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Cold and clear. No wind.

Snow surface

Several cm of near surface faceting was observed on top of wind affected rounds (the Christmas wind event) in most locations.

Snowpack

The snowpack structure was still poor in our pit location. That being said, there was no propagation observed in both of the ECT tests we completed. The only reactivity we observed was on our compression test. Our CT results were CT29SP roughly 10cm down (observed at the interface between the wind affected rounds and the facets underneath). The faceted layers within the snowpack were showing signs of rounding.

Snowpit Location: Off the side of the common skin track up to $1000 run.
HS 85 cm
Aspect: SW
Elevation: 4,212’
Slope: 17 degrees
Test Results: ECTX and CT29SP roughly 10cm down (observed at the interface between the wind affected rounds and the facets underneath)
