We took a snowmachine ride out Archangel Valley to assess post-storm conditions with good visibility. We saw numerous loose avalanches as well as slab avalanches on all aspects in the mid and upper elevations. Access via Archangel Rd and ski track. The dogs wandered off the skin track into steeper terrain and triggered this soft slab.  [ Read More ]

Went to Hatcher to check out conditions during the storm. Started at skeetawk parking lot. No new precipitation had fallen during the entire time I was there (1PM until 3PM). Winds were moderate with some strong gusts in the beginning. it cranked up a notch by my departure.  [ Read More ]

Split-toured from Independence Lot to Cross Hill to assess the recently wind affected snow and arrival of the incoming storm. I found reactive slabs on leeward west through north aspects in the mid elevations due to actively drifting snow.  [ Read More ]
