Route & General Observations

We toured up from Gold Mint to the Knob and skied a few laps, then drove down to Little Japan (Dippery Woods?) and went up to treeline. Avalanche activity was noted at both locations.

Avalanche Details

On our two runs up from Gold Mint, we witnessed significant wind gusts from the West forming reactive soft slab. A skier triggered a very small avalanche that ran on the new-old snow interface well above the drizzle crust.

Even the knob seemed sketchy with the conditions so we went to Little Japan for a hot lap. Winds were calmer but there was evidence of natural avalanche activity even on very mellow slopes. Whoompfing and collapsing was noted in areas with fewer old tracks underneath.
