Route & General Observations

Toured from Goldmint TH to north face of Delia Peak. Springtime crusts transitioned to moist powder on north aspects around 3000’. Northerlies above 4200’ harbored dry powder and old ridge top windslabs. No red flags on northerlies.

Weather & Snow Characteristics
Please provide details to help us determine the weather and snowpack during the time this observation took place.
Weather

Partly sunny and calm, temps warming to mid 30s to low 40s F after an overnight freeze.

Snow surface

Observed thick melt freeze crusts on all solar aspects in the morning, becoming ripe corn by midday despite spotty sun. Crusts transitioned to moist powder on north aspects around 3000’. Northerlies above 4200’ harbored dry heady pow and old ridge-top windslabs.

Snowpack

Dug two ECTs at 3800’ on a northerly apron. Snowpack heights ranged from 100-160cm, showing ~35 cm of right-side up decomposed grains and small surface facets overlying older, large moist facets which extended to ground. One test yielded an ECTN27 on this grain size interface. Another test on a higher north aspect at 4800’ showed a dryer snowpack with similar structure, yielding no results (ECTX).
