Several Avalanche Education Scholarships are available for the 2023/24 winter season. These scholarships are through endowments in the memory of Amy Downing (scholarships for women) and Rob Hammel (a recreation and professional scholarship) along with eight additional scholarships in partnership with the Alaska Avalanche School. Big changes are on the horizon for the Chugach NF Avalanche Center. Up to two new avalanche specialists are being hired to assist with avalanche forecasting and outreach for the Kenai Peninsula as well as one avalanche specialist/professional observer to be hired for the Anchorage Front Range (Chugach State Park).
