The Chugach NF Avalanche Center is accepting applications for next season's Internship Program! Closing date is June 30, 2024. This program has been highly successful, a staple for the center, and promotes a pipeline for aspiring snow/avalanche professionals. Big Changes for 2024/25!

As we wrap up a season of major expansion for CNFAC operations, we are excited to be planning for more growth in 2024/25. Our operation for Chugach State Park exceeded our expectations, and we are looking forward to continuing along a similar format next season. The big changes will be for our new forecast zones on the Chugach National Forest- the Summit Lake and Seward/Lost Lake areas. John Mtn – Avalanche Accident

Preliminary Report: An avalanche was triggered on Tuesday afternoon, February 13, 2024, by a group of three backcountry skiers on John Mtn in the Kenai Mountains. The party was ascending the slope when the avalanche occurred. Two of the three people involved sustained injuries and the third did not survive. Forecasters are visiting the site today, February 14.
