CNFAIC Forecaster Chat #3- How the Sausage is Made: What goes into an avalanche forecast?

January 16 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Free

Join CNFAIC forecasters Andrew Schauer and Wendy Wagner as we talk about how we put together a forecast, and how we put an advisory to use while we are in the mountains.

What to expect:

  • We are kicking off the evening with the Friends of the Chugach National Forest Avalanche Center gear giveaway! Tune in for your chance to win a new pair of skis donated by SkiAK. All members will be put in for a chance to win. If you aren’t already a member, there is still time to sign up here.
  • We’ll bring in special guest Karl Birkeland from the National Avalanche Center to discuss the in’s and out’s of the North American Avalanche Danger Scale.
  • Andrew and Wendy will chat about forecasting for different Avalanche Problems, and their effect on safe travel in the backcountry.
  • By request, we will give a brief overview of how we effectively run partner rescue scenarios with our partners.

As always, there will be plenty of room for your participation too!

Date/Time: Saturday, January 16, 6:00-7:30 p.m.
