Route & General Observations

Standard up track to 2200′. Looking at new snow depths, bonding at the new/old interface and total snow depths in the mid elevation band (1000′ -2500′). No vis to get good info in the Alpine.

Very light snow at Turnagain pass. Raining on the north side below 700'.
NE winds gusting into the 20s.
35F at the parking lot. 20Fs on Sunburst wx station.

Snow Characteristics

Snow surface

1000'- 1500': 2-4" of new moist snow.
1500' -2200': 4-8" of new moist snow. Wind effect starting at 2000'.
Mud near parking lot!

Snowpack

New snow was on a (moist) melt-freeze crust over very moist melt forms. Melt-freeze crust was thin at 1000' and became thicker with elevation up to 2". Hand pits showed bonding. Could initiate roller balls on steep roll overs.
No results in shovel tilt test with new snow on the crust.

HS @1600': 145 cm
HS @ 2200': 220 cm
