Route & General Observations
Alaska Avalanche school level 1 toured up to lower microdot for snow pit day. we saw skiers on eldorado bowl, Marmot and microdot skiing steep slopes without incident. Ski quality was high, but snow from last storm was hiding rocks and other obstacles.
Test slope on marmot appeared to have a small slide
Cold, with calm to light winds
Decomposing storm snow that appeared to be faceting.
Pits had very poor structure, moderate strength, and low to moderate propagation. CTs were results were in the teens failing on facets below melt freeze crust. ECT results were moderate with propagation on the melt freeze crust 80cm's down. We also experienced failures on the buried near surface facets below pencil hard wind slab at 30cms.
