Route & General Observations
Skied 3 laps on Manitoba in the alder band between 1700 and 2600 feet
none. Summit Lake area was pretty benign the last 3 days
cloud deck thickened at about 2400ft, visibility was poor below that, terrible above.
35F, light snow, and a mild North wind from 10am until about 1pm
Around 2pm the snow and wind picked up, it felt even warmer, and the wind shifted to the East (coming down the ridges, instead of paralleling the highway)
We could see darker storm clouds to the North and South of the central Summit Lake area.
On the drive home at 4pm it was 35F and snowing at road level, 1200ft. Rain line was observed at about 900ft elevation at Moose Mtn & Frenchy on the descent to Hope Junction. Again at 900ft while climbing past Bertha Creek campground. Then at 800ft descending Turnagain Pass past Tincan.
a fraction of a inch of new snow by the yurts.
1-3" of new snow at 2000ft
0-9" of wind deposited new snow above 2000ft
wind driven new snow of wind board. We did not dig, or get above the tree line to see if wind slabs were forming in the alpine, but in general, not much new snow had fallen and winds were not very high.
